The WKC Katanas are more than standard Katana, you find anywhere. Why ?

The most recent development has taken place on the area of traditional martial-arts weapons, especially Japanese Katana swords. We think that offering a valued product is at least what you expect when one invest in a high quality product.

An ongoing, continuous development is our aim to provide you with the latest technology and best design. We combine the traditional manual skill with modern techniques.

The results of our intensive work can be seen already.

  • WKC is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 since March 2000:
    • We at WKC, think that you deserve the best service, quality and warrantee. That is why, we submit ourselves to the ISO certification. The ISO certification is not a self-checking that any company can claim. To be certified is the result of going through a procedure. We are controlled by an official external organization. It is a guarantee for you that you get a high quality service. Check yourself, how many producers of edged weapons are certified according to DIN ISO 9001:2000.
  • Knowledge of metal-working and craftsmanship:
    • Our knowledge about working with raw materials like steel, iron, brass and wood, as well as the knowledge about forging, heat-treatment, grinding, polishing, casting and assembly, can be fully used in order to develop wonderfully designed swords on highest technical level.
    • Using the quality details of military swords making, and adapting it to the Katana, guarantee you a wonderful product.
  • WKC : International and experience:
    • Our knowledge of 122 years is fully used to provide you the best quality product.
    • Same as fort he exports of our products, WKC has developed a network of international suppliers. Having the contacts with so many different people of various countries, it has been noted, that over there, special techniques are still used, that we cannot find here anymore. This knowledge and also the skills, combined with the knowledge of us, will make an excellent product.
    • Today WKC delivers to more than 40 different countries.
    • WKC has got more than 20 representatives in different countries of the world. Languages like English, Spanish, French or Portuguese are fluently spoken at WKC now and link us strongly with our clients.
  • Material Checking:
    • Every steps of the production is controlled. Having a hand-made product guarantee a very good material checking. Every person in WKC  is aware of our familiar "Golden Rule" ethic: the best combined quality - service.

More than words, we invite you to see the pictures below, which show details of the Katana making.

  • Tsuba:
    • Carbon steel (C45), hand polished, steel oxidized (not lacquered). Special holes allow a perfect position of the blade with the guard and bring a stronger position.

  • Mekugi:
    • Bamboo wood, based upon the traditional method to seat the pins. The 2 mekugi-ana are drilled diagonal and conical into the tongue. The mekugi are fitted from opposite side.

The Mekugi are conical.

  • Nakago:
    • Each grip (Tsuka) is adapted to the blade tongue (Nakago). The tongue goes far into the Tsuka for better adjustment and is fastened with 2 locking pins.

Different types of blades

  • Sugata (Blade Style):
    • The blade spine is iori-mune, the edge is without Niku.
    • Cutting sharp blade.

  • Spring Steel blades:
    • Hand-forged curved blades with Chu-Kissaki (tip). Spring steel (C55Si7). The hardness of the Mune is 55° and the Ha (blade edge) is 55° HRC Rockwell.

The blade spine is iori-mune, the edge is without Niku. ( sharp blade).

  • High carbon steel blades:
    • Hand-forged curved blade with Bohi (groove) and Chu-Kissaki tip. High Carbon steel (C105 W2). Differentially hardened by traditional clay-wrapping technique. The hardness of the Mune is ca 43° and the Ha (blade edge) is ca 60° HRC Rockwell.

The blade spine is iori-mune, the edge is without Niku. (sharp blade).

  • Folded steel blades:
    • Hand-forged curved blade with a Bohi (groove) and (Blade style) Chu-Kissaki (tip). Folded steel (45C & C55Si7). 13 times folded to achieve ca. 8192 layers traditional clay-wrapping technique for differential hardening. There are beautiful hada (grain in steel, pattern of folding the steel) in the blade. The hardness of its Mune is ca 43° and the Ha (blade edge) is ca 60° HRC Rockwell.

The blade spine is iori-mune, the edge is without Niku. (sharp blade).

  • Tamahagane:
    • The blade is forged from 2 sorts of steel, the softer C45 is embedded into the harder C105. This forging art comes from the Japanese model Makuri which was taught in Japan since centuries but only to the best smith. The two steel are forged up to 26000 layers and thanks to the traditional clay-wrapping technique for differential hardening, you can see the martensite crystals and the Hamonlinie. This is made visible with our carbon steel blade only by manual polish. The hardness of the Mune is ca 61° HRC and the Ha (blade edge) is ca 48° HRC.
